THE CONSTITUENT PARTS OF A BUSINESS PLAN
The following is a brief description of the various parts that form a workable business plan:
Title
This first and whole page is devoted to providing the name of the company, its contact details like, both physical and postal addresses, phone and fax numbers, email address, website and the name of the Chief Executive Officer.
Table of Contents
This is a sequential enumeration of and paging of the sections that will make up the whole business plan when completed.
Executive Summary
This is a synopsis of the business plan which gives a glimpse of its cardinal points.
Vision/Mission
This is a snapshot of the business in its present stage, as well as a picture of where it is headed to, what it will look like on getting there and goals and objectives on how to arrive there.
Company Overview
In this section, is found fundamental information about the company’s structure, key management, staffing and strategic partners and alliances.
Product Strategy
This section reviews the company’s existing products and what are their competitive edges over similar products of competition. The company’s future research and development plans and production and distribution are all discussed here.
Market Analysis
This is the section that tries to define the company’s market, the market segments, the demographics and psychographics of the company’s target customers, competitors’ products and both business and environmental risks.
Market Plan
This section covers areas such as: sales strategy, advertising, promotion, public and customer relations.
Financial Plan
The company’s capital requirements and profit projections are analyzed and explained here.
Supporting Documents
This section, which is usually the last one, includes a variety of all relevant additional documents to support the objectives of the business plan. This will include but not limited to, financial reports, company brochures, resumes of key personnel, etc.
